toolbar problem

Dell installed a new hard drive for me. Computer XP 3 (or should be). I get
a google bar and Yahoo bar, which when I click on the icons nothing happens.
I previously had a tool bar at the top which included file, print, edit,
view, favorites etc. I no longer have it. I tried to figure it out, but to no
avail. Last two times I called dell I was on the phone to India for nine
hours. I would like to avoid this. How can I get my computer to where it
was before they installed the new hard drive. I am not too technical
skilled. Please help. When I want to print something from the internet I
can't do it altho my printer does work. Thank you

I would say that your old setup included some customizations to best
fit the needs of the user. Those customizations are all gone now with
your new installation and must be recreated.

It takes some time to get your system dialed in the way you like it.
When you had your drive replaced and especially if Dell did it for
you, you can be sure that you got their version of dialed in. I can
only imagine, but I think I would have to start changing it all right
away.

To get help in these groups, you need to supply more details so fewer
questions have to be asked back and forth.

Sounds like you are using Internet Explorer, so we need to find out
what version it is. With IE running, click the Help link at the top
and the select About Internet Explorer. The latest version is 8.X,
previous was 7.X.

What you describe sound like they are not really Windows XP problems
but Internet Explorer options and configurations that you can learn to
adjust. There is a separate group(s) for that where those IE experts
hang out. I don't know the exact group name(s), but somebody here
will hopefully post some links for you and you can jump in those
groups.

1. Uninstall the Google and Yahoo toolbars from Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel. They are generally problematic and unnecessary.

2. The toolbar at the top to which you refer was probably the Dell Dock if
you have a laptop (you forgot to tell us what kind of computer you have).
If you do indeed have a laptop that has the Dell Dock option, you can
download it from Dell's website.

3. If #2 isn't applicable to you, then you must have had a third-party
toolbar installed previously and I can't possibly guess what it was.
