toolbar confusion

Hi. I have a problem with the little icons on the left of my toolbar. There's 10 of them beside the clock, and I want a lot of them to not load there when I start my computer up. I know I've done this before, but I don't know where to go. HELP?!!

First (preferred method) open each of those programs and look for the option
to not load at startup. Others can be disabled from Run> MSCONFIG> Startup
(Win 98, ME, XP) A startup manager such as Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel
