Tool tips annoy me. They get in the way. Is there a way to turn them off in
all applications and windows?

Hi Henry,

How to remove pop-up descriptions (tool tips) from desktop icons:
Open My Computer
Click Tools - Folder Options - View tab, and uncheck this option:
"Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items"

Taskbar Pop-up descriptions (or tool tips) for open programs can not be
removed, however they can be changed.
To change pop-up descriptions (or tool tips) for icons on the Quick
Launch toolbar:
Right click on each icon in the Quick Launch toolbar and select
properties.
Look at comments on the shortcut tab and change or delete the text.
On the General tab, the text in the box at the top can be changed, but
not deleted.

The font size, font color, and background color can also be changed.
To change the font size of pop-up descriptions (or tool tips) for
Taskbar Icons:
Right click on the Desktop and select properties.
Click the Appearance tab - Advanced Button.
Select Tooltips from the Items dropdown box and adjust the font size and
background color.

How to remove Balloon Tips:
The balloon tips can be disabled using Tweakui. Install Tweakui and go
to
Task - Start menu, then uncheck "Enable balloon tips".

Hi,

Select the windows in question and press Alt - PrtSc (print screen) on
the keyboard.
This will place an image into the clipboard. Open your image viewing
app, of MS-Paint and select paste.
Save the image as a jpg of gif file.
Go to the following site and upload the image file.

Once the file has been uploaded a url will be provided to it's location.
Post the url here.

Irfanview is an excellent app for viewing and editing image files.

necessary information, to keep the image file size small. And attach it
to a reply here.

Thanks Bert. You've spared either my PC from a swift kick, or my own sanity
from having to work around those stupid tool tips popping up over
*everything*. Cripes, when is Microsoft going to get input from *real* users
about pointless "improvements" like this?

Henry - sounds like something is wrong in your registry(?). Bert's tip
worked for me on a new XP installation.
