Too Much Files

I have upgrades XP professional Service Pack 1 to 2. The Volume of C drive or
System Drive is 13.9 GB . The problem is My C drive have only 38% of free
space that is 3.5-4GB of free space. I don't know what is the rest. I have
applications for general Use Like.

Yahoo messenger,MSN,Fire Fox,Registry Clean, Adobe acrobat reader, MS
Office, SDK engine for Speech Software, Outlook Express, Outlook, Norton Anti
Virus, DivX and few small applications.

My Window Folder Size is 3.9GB. What is the best Possibility to Clean up the
space and to remove the left files of the applications which is already
removed from the system if there is any left.

I have done all what is required in Common Task Like Clean Up,Disk Defrag,
Check disk, Virus Check, Malicious Software Scan,Registry clean etc etc.

My system is responding very slow.

I have Sony Vaio Notepad Pentium 4 2.66 GHz 40Gb hard disk.

Some time when I am not using my system the HD keep reading something What
GOD knows.

In task Manager Performance The Graph shows that on the idle Condition the
Processor blinks 5-10% mark which is new problem which makes the system
overheated.

Kindly also tell me the Configuration of the Advance settings of the System
in Control Panel related to Performance, like the Greater share for the
Processor and Memory selection. Mine is for Processor - System services and
Memory- Program.

I have 256 Physical memory and 288 Virtual Memory.

My physical Memory shows 195 which I thought was some device failure but
then from the Sony website came to know that the Diff memory is used by
system.

So now tell me the cause of the Slow respond which takes 4-5 Sec for the
Folder to open 5-10 sec for application to start. If the system is left idle
then for one when used it gets hang for 4-5 sec. when system rebooted or
started it takes 5-6 Min to come to normal.

The startup applications are Norton system which only has anti virus but
also block worm intrutions. Sound & Volume of system and the DSL Meter or
status bar.

The devices Connected are

there are 3 USB ports one the back of the note pad, and two on the side.
the two on the side one which has fax & printer Connected of HP. the other
USB is used when I want to connect Cam to it.
the rear Single Port is Connected to ADSL modem of astech which is provided
by the Broad band Service Provider.

This is all the Details I have for my Notepad kindly tell me what is the
best possible way to make my system Fast fresh and active please don't
suggest me to install XP from scratch.

Get rid of Norton and next time buy a pc that has the ram and hard drive
space you need to work with XP.

Do you have another volume/drive? You can uninstall some of your apps and
reinstall them to D: (or whatever your other partition / drive is). I agree
that Norton is a resource hog and would either ditch it or install it
elsewhere.

TreeSize Pro (JAM Software) is a very useful tool to have when you want to
see what's hogging disk space.

Redirect your My Documents to your other partition (like, d:\data or
something).

Disk usage shouldn't have anything to do with this, really - you need more
RAM. You might also see whether you can disable startup items using
msconfig, to free up some resources.

Not relevant, really.
