How many children use the computer, and do they each have their own separate
accounts?

- Change your resolution so you can fit more.
- Organize your programs into folders/sub-folders.
- Install less stuff.

You were seriously going to call Microsoft on that one?

This may help you in the future...

Now is a great time to point you to one of the easiest ways to find
information on problems you may be having and solutions others have found:

Search using Google!
http://www.google.com/
(How-to: http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/basics.html )

So your problem as you described...
http://www.google.com/search?q="Windows+XP"+"Start+Menu"+organize

Take a look through those.

Right click the Start Button/Properties/Customize/Advanced/Scroll Programs

or:

Right click the Start Button/Explore All Users/Start Menu/Programs. In the
right pane, create new Folders and drag and drop related shortcuts, etc.

or:

Rename the longer titles, thus reducing the width.

Added info:

Description of the Start Menu in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q279767

Manual Edit: Enable Start Menu Scrolling

When there are more items on the Start Menu than can fit on the screen,
Windows can either create a second column of items or it can create a
scrolling menu. This tweak controls that functionality.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Explorer\Advanced. Value Name: StartMenuScrollPrograms, Data Type: REG_SZ
(String Value), Value Data: "Yes" or "No".

Create a new String value, or modify the existing value, called
'StartMenuScrollPrograms' and edit the value according to the settings
above.

Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the
change to take effect.

Note: This can be used either on a user by user basis by adding it to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER or on a computer wide basis by adding it to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

==================================================
Right click your Taskbar and choose Properties / Start Menu tab /
Customize button / Advanced tab...scroll down and check the box
"Scroll Programs" / OK / Apply / OK.

Now you can scroll the program list.

Give him a break, Shenan.

It was just a question, Kelly - nothing more.

I did provide the answers and the method to find the answer. With that and
the attached Google search results - they should be able to greatly reduce
the vertical size of their start menu rather quickly *and* know how to use a
search engine in the future so they don't have to consider calling for paid
support until they have tried other avenues.

No one ever learns anything any younger than they are right now, after all.
The more you know... Knowledge is power, etc and so on. ;-)

Combine them. Example: Suppose you have twenty different games. Create a
folder called games, put each of the twenty
games in the 'games' folder and make sure the games folder shows in 'all
programs'.
