too dark

This is typical of CRT monitors that they get darker over time. Why? I
don't know. It's happened to all generic CRTs I've ever used. Either get a
nice new CRT from Samsung or some other non-generic company or treat
yourself to a nice flat panel.

Hi Ray - one never know, do one? This wasn't altogether in jest - my
tired old eyes have from time to time caused me lower the blinds and
work without the stimulating sight of the pretty multicolored sails
moving around on the pretty blue water of Tampa Bay just past the pretty
green palms, all under the pretty white puffy clouds. :) And I thought
maybe suggesting an eye exam wouldn't be well received...

Of course you're spot on about monitor age and the dimming CRT. They
also seem to lose beam deflectability. At least, one of my old tubes,
even driven at max height/width adjustments, is gradually displaying
across a smaller and smaller field. What's the business case for new
display/card vs great big magnifying glass? Or do these things just run
out of electrons? Do magnets wear out? Is the cathode a nonrenewable
resource? Is there a vast engineering conspiracy a la car batteries?

(Happy New Year ;-)
