pictures dark

I have XP and an Orian older monitor. It shows up as Plug and Play monitor.
All of my pics whether in a photo program or on the web at shutterfly show
really dark. If I brighten them using a photo program they are too light when
printed. When I use my digital camera card on my msn for tv they show up just
as they look in the camera. I have adjusted the brightness on the front of my
monitor. Is there anything else I can try? Do I need a different monitor for
some reason? This is very frustrating.

Attach your computer to a different monitor. Is the display bright now?
If it is, replace your older monitor. I suspect that is the cause of
the problem.

Have you tried adjusting the brightness of your monitor? Most have controls
on the front.

Yes, the pics print the way they look in my camera. Thanks for the link. I
tried it, but the bars I am supposed to choose from during the calibration
don't even show up. There is just white screen where they should be. I am
thinking time to buy a new monitor. It just never ends with computers. Seems
I am always having to buy something else everytime I get any new gadget such
as my new camcorder.

Does the monitor have it's own set of drivers? Have you changed anything
on your system lately? It may be as simple as using the correct drivers
since it's using the default drivers provided by XP. But then wouldn't
a nice 19" flat panel look nice on your desk :)
