TOC in list format

dear community

can community please assist to how to do the following task: ?

I like to create a TOC in a list format, example say

1.1
1.1.2
1.1.3

I can use the Heading 1 as the 1st level following with Heading 2 as the 2nd
level and lastly Heading 3 as the 3rd level

this has no problem for me because all the need to do is when I use the
Word feature, by using the Format > Bullet And Numbering > I chosed the
Numbering Outline

the problem starts when I wanted to added addition a new or create new
paragraph under any heading and when I select the TOC to do an update, all
the listing numbering disappeared and I have to select all the TOC and repeat
the Bullet And Numbering style.

what I am enquiring is, am I doing the right method to get the TOC in list
format or if I am doing the right way, is there another better way for me to
do where I need not have to keep re-selecting the whole TOC and repeat the
process of doing the Numbering List ?

thanks for all assistance render

If your headings are numbered, then the TOC will pick up the numbering. If
the headings aren't numbered, you can add numbering to the TOC styles (as
described in http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm). But it sounds
to me as if you're trying to create a TOC manually using heading styles.
This is the wrong approach; for the correct method, see
