TOC becomes corrupt

Unfortunately that is not the problem. The TOC becomes
corrupt part way through, the first part is ok ... any
ideas?

hello,

One of our users experienced a problem with a Word 98
document where the page numbers and the TOC became corrupt
after receiving an error message ... "server could no
longer connect to the document".

Part way through the TOC, instead of showing the page
number it displays what looks like code, the same applies
to the page numbers in the footers.

What could cause this? The server drive that the document
was stored on was still accessible. How can this be fixed?

Does it work if you work on a local copy of the file? Sounds like it could
be a timing problem due to network congestion?
