Nr. 1: Click Start\Control Panel\Folder Options\View.

Nr. 2: Open Windows Explorer, click on Tools\Folder Options\View.

Using either method scroll down and check the boxes you desire.

That is how I expected it to be. But there is neither Folder Options in
Control Panel nor Folder Options in Windows Explorer - Tools

Start > Run > Type "control folders" [without quotes]
Go to View tab

To show Extensions : Uncheck "Hide known file extensions"
To show hidden files: Select "Show hidden files and folders"
To show Syatem files [Not recommended, specially if you are a new user] :
Uncheck "Hide protected operating system files(Recommended)"

Hi,

This was previously posted by Doug Knox MS-MVP.

Go to Start, Run and enter REGEDIT

Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Look in the right pane for a value called NoFolderOptions. Right click on this
value if found and select Delete. You can also select Modify and set the value
to 0 (zero). If the value does not exist in HKEY_CURRENT_USER look in the same
path as above, but substitute HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

If editing the Registry manually is not to your liking, visit my web site,
www.dougknox.com, Security Section and follow the link for Disable/Enable Folder
Options. If the first time you run the script it says Disabled, run it again.
