To restore a .pst file?

I have just upgraded my Win 98 to Win XP but I forgot to backup my
".pst" file before I did a clean install. Could anyone please let me
know if there's a way to find my old ".pst" file or is it lost forever?

Thank you for any assistance/comments.
 
If you did a reformat of the disk drive to install XP and didn't have
the PST's backed up, they are gone. Forever.

Well, without some fancy software that only law enforcement is allowed
to have anyway...
