To free up disk space outlook express can compact messages

Every time my computer starts up I get the message, "To free up disk space
outlook express can compact messages" Problem is, I don't even use Outlook
Express, I use Outlook 2007. I know how to stop the message from coming up,
by going into the registry and resetting the counter but, what I would like
to do is solve the problem, what is this doing this.

Thanks

I had the same problem. MSFT Windows Search Desktop is calling Outlook
Express from a script. I tried to delete the call, but didn't work(not a pc
pgmr).
Solution: I found two extra copies of "Windows Search" short cut in
c:\doc..&set..\all users\start menu\programs. and one in same plus "startup"
folder. I delete both of them from "all users" and the problem went away.

I hope this also fixes my startup problem. A few times my dell dem 8400
stalls during power on and IPL from account setup to login account, the last
thing I see in "Search Desktop" on the lower tool bar. I know later this
week.

Since I do not have Outlook Express installed at all (Windows Components), getting this message means it obviously is coming from somewhere else. Taking the lead on the Windows Search, I instead looked to see if that might be sticking its little fingers where they don't belong. Sure enough. I suspect this will resolve the problem.

If you're using Windows Search, right click the System Tray icon, select Windows Search Options. When the Indexing Options dialog box appears, click the Modify button at the bottom. Find Microsoft Outlook Express in the list, clear the check box, click OK. Microsoft Outlook Express should no longer appear in the "Index these locations:" list. Close the dialog box.

Left click on START, Control Panel, Indexing Services
Click on Modify and Un-check the box / boxes
next to Outlook Express.
Click OK and Close.
