This may have the appearance of a "Norton Anti-Virus
issue, but I need help understanding some OS issues,
PLEASE bear with me this is long but I want to get all
the information to you. A few days ago I received 4
suspicious e-mails, disguised as being from MS, with
attachments regarding "Updates" I needed !, (I now know
they do not send unsolicited updates notices thru e-
mail), despite appearing to be from MS, , I began to
delete the e-mails, then a "red Norton virus window" came
up warning the e-mails was/contained viruses.
The "warning window", I don't recall exactly what
happened, other than identifying the viruses, I clicked
on the stand-out option "OK" in blue letters, the window
continued to reappear again and again. Norton also was
unable to repair the viruses although they were
identified?? I immediately up-dated Norton, and it
prompted me to try repair again, no luck. I quarantined
the viruses as recommended. Note: I'm on DSL. I shut
down the computer and had to leave town for a few days, I
returned, turned on the computer, (it does go to the e-
mail on start-up), and the "S*#$ Hit the Fan", e-mails
containing viruses were loading into my mail box, a
total of nine more loaded, it was like an Internet "drive
buy" I grabbed my modem and unplugged it. Norton could
only identify the viruses, and again "could not repair.
There was an e-mail from my mail server stating my mail
box was full. I contacted my ISP support, in short,
they were able to delete all mail still in/at the server.
If I haven't lost you, I turned off auto receive on the e-
mail and turned on the modem again, I was able to clean
out allot of junk with AdAware. I sent a copy of one of
the viruses to Symantec, and I hope they will help. All
the viruses quarantined are TMP files and there appears to
be no problems with my computer. A search of the virus
file name on both Google and Symantec show nothing,
therefore in my most humble and unlearned knowledge of
computer Operating Systems, I believe I can delete TMP
files from my computer, am I correct? Has anyone ever
heard of an e-mail viruses deluge like this? My mail is
off now because they continue to come. HELP
