Title tag

Why do my Meta tags show up sometimes and other times they can not be found.
I talk to my hosting company and asked if they were blocking the spiders and
they said no. They told me that they could not help me unless I was using
their Meta tag generator. I think that they are blocking the spiders so that
I will buy their service. What do you think? The web site is
http://www.travelgraphic.com if you want to look at the source. I know that
meta tags are not used much any more by search engines. But my title tag also
can not be found. If I republish my site they show up fine till the next day
then they are gone.

What do you think?

I don't think they are doing this. If they were, it would be a simple
matter to change hosts.

You mean when you do a search using Google for your exact page title?
If I republish my site they show up fine till the next day
then they are gone.

Something is goofy - it takes much more than a day to get indexed....

I have used Microsoft's meta tag generator at Bcentral and a generator from a
different company several times to check that my tags are correct and showing
up.

When I publish my site everything is allright till the next day then the
meta tag generators can not locate them untill I re-publish my site.

Sorry - I don't understand what this means. It takes MONTHS and MONTHS for
a submitted site to appear in search engine indices.

If you publish a page with changed meta tags, then wait a day, then browse
to the page, and look at the code, are the changed meta tags there? If they
are, then they will be read by the spiders. If they are not, then you have
some other problem....

Your MetaTags are there, and there does not appear to be a
robots.txt file in your domain that would block spiders,
however; if the search engines do find your site then they
have no instructions on what to follow and what not. You
may want to create that file and place it into your the root
of your web.

Why can't you find it then? Maybe the SEs are not that
aware of your site yet. The only way a SE becomes aware of
your site is by either submission to the SE or by a link
from a site that the SE has indexed

A robot.txt file is not needed, also it is a file to exclude robots or tell robots what not to
index. It does not tell robot what to index. The default with no robot tags, is to index everything
accessible from the root of the domain.

It is also file that can give hackers a roadmap to content or areas that you are trying to hide, if
you indicate the content to be excluded in the robot.txt file.

Not if you have links from already indexed pages or if you are
publishing an update.

Also, that would not explain why the changes show up initially and then
disappear.

@bscpnm:

Can you see the title in your browser when you navigate to the home
page? I see it here and the tags look fine on your home page.

M

Murray

Not if you have links from already indexed pages or if you are
publishing an update.

Can still be true, though, particularly with Google's latest sandbox thing.
Also, that would not explain why the changes show up initially and then
disappear.

We don't know what is really meant by the changes showing up initially,
though. I suspect that this is not being monitored via a search engine....

The Meta tag generator spiders your site to check for your title and Meta
tags. If none are found it reports to you that none are found.

My concerned is if the Meta tag spider reports no title or met tags; the
search engines may also not detect the tags. If the search engines can not
see the title tag will my site be indexed? Or do I not have to worry abut a
title tag any more. Is it not relevant to the search engines?

This is the first time I have encountered this in any site I have developed.

M

Murray

Just look at the code on the page when you browse to it. If the meta tags
are there, they WILL be found.

If the generator is not finding them, then either you are using it
incorrectly, or there is a problem with the generator program.

I have used both of these programs many times they are idiot proof. Also both
programs either find them at the same time or nether finds them. I t seems
like to much of a coincident to me that when they can’t find them and I
re-publish the web site they can.

Thanks for your advice:

True as per usual.

Paul,

When was the last time you updated or changed? I have used
IE & FF to browse your site, and I see your tags quite well.
I also used the poodle prdictor on your site and it shows
them. Try it out, and click on the Header-Meta link to see
the tag information:

If the meta tags are in the code for the page, they will be seen by the
spiders. I don't know how much more clearly I can say it. Whether they
will be used by the spiders to rank your page is doubtful, but they will
certainly be seen.

Hi Mike
This is a new site that was just put up about 4 days ago. The day after I
put in online I ran a routine check with two different Meta tag checkers and
both showed no title tag or Meta tags. I republished the site and checked
again and both found my title and Meta tags. The next day I checked them
again and neither could find the title or Meta tags again. This process has
been repeated every day for 4 days and each time when I re-publish my site
the tags once again show up with the Meta tag checker until the next day. I
re-published the site again last night about midnight and they sill show up
now. I will re-post to this thread when they disappear again.
Thanks
Paul Millen
