Timestamps of FTP transfer

I just tested my path to my host for one of my FrontPage webs by
transferring a file. This web is transferred via FTP with WS-FTP. Before I
did this, I went to my computer's web cache folder and deleted the previous
..web file.

When I chose the file to transfer (dated 10/4/07 at 11:26 p.m.) (time stamp
of the orogonal transfer), WS-FTP, seeing it had already been transferred to
the host with this time-stamp, asked if it could replace it with the file
with time-stamp of 10/4/07 at 9:34 am.

Seeing the replacement's timestamp, I looked at the transfer notes which
said the file was loaded from [Directory Listing Cache]DIRB.tmp. I did a
search to find that it is the WS-FTP's cache. the actual file was 5 KB.

Is this supposed to be an intuitive replacement by WS-FTP? Should I have
not deleted the .web cache, which, undoubtedly contained an exact copy of
the originally transferred file.

Which .web file from which cache?
The .web files in Documents and Settings/username/Application
Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache have nothing to do with WS
FTP - they are used by FrontPage.
Deleting .web files does no harm (provided FrontPage is closed)

The .web cache files do not contain copies of the files in a web site.

Yes, I'm aware of that. It was just a description of what I had done while
getting ready to resend a file. And it *was* the FrontPage web cache files
that I deleted, as you stated. I was just looking to find out why an FTP
transfer would offer to send up a replacement file that is about 12 hours
older than the one I wanted to send.
