Timeout too long

It takes several minutes for an error (or skipping over) to appear when a PC
across the network cannot be found therefore slowing things down
considerably. Possibly after installing SP2.

You haven't given us any details about your network. Ethernet or wired?
Domain or workgroup? How many computers in the network?

Work group - both XP Pro. Wired Ethernet 200Mbit. generally 2 (are others)
but it's the XP one that is so slow - has SP2 also.
