time zone updates after reinstall

I noticed that two of the XP Pro computers in my office changed back from
daylight savings time this week instead of next. The thing that both
computers have in common is that I had to reinstall XP from the original CD
since the original time change occurred. Even though both computers are fully
patched TZEdit shows that they both are using the old time zones. If I try to
manually run the updates (either KB931667 or KB933360) I get an error stating
that the update has already been performed on that system. Anybody else run
into this over the weekend?

Don,

My desktop was also wrong - and I had just reinstalled XP a few weeks ago.

Here's what I did to fix it:
Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs. Check
the upper box that says "Show Updates". Remove Windows XP Hotfix KB933360.
Download KB931836 and KB933360 from Microsoft. Install KB931836 and then
KB933360.

I finally did the same and got through it. Looks like this will have to
happen everytime somebody reinstalls XP on their system. What a treat :)

For what it's worth, I used TZEDIT last spring and both the spring
and fall changes were fine. (Well, the fall change hasn't happened
yet, but I mean that my computers didn't change time over the
weekend.)

I believe that the newer Hotfix (KB933360), when installed by itself, doesn't
work. It has to be installed over the older Hotfix (KB931836) that it
superceded.

Glad that you were able to get it working.

But had reinstalled XP since the spring changes? The reinstallation reverts
back to the old time changes and the patches don't work unless you either
uninstall/reinstall them or use TZEdit to manually change them to the correct
settings.

Maybe I should have been more explicit. If I had had to reinstall XP,
I would have used TZEDIT rather than patches that contain unknown
other stuff. My experience with TZEDIT gives me a high degree of
confidence that it would work for others who *do* have to reinstall
XP.
