Daylight Savings Time Issue

Scott

My XP XP2 computer has the latest 942763 patch but this morning still shows
Daylight Standard Time. The settings in Time Zone are correctly set to
automatically update for Daylight Savings Time. I tried rebooting and
reinstalling the patch but the setup informed me it had already been applied.

What needs to be done to fix this?

change it manually and move on with your life. everything doesn't
have to be automatic, what are you doing with all the clocks in
your house?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the correct time zone is selected. The only thing
different about this computer is that I performed an XP repair on it a couple
of months ago.

The XP repair may have written over some of the code the patch updated.
Try removing the patch in Control Panel>Add or remove programs. Be
sure the Show updates box is checked. Then reinstall it and see if it works.

You need to find the Daylight Savings patch and reinstall it.

To save disk space I remove the $NtUninstall...$ folders after a month or so
if there are no issues. May have to revisit that strategy. Given the fact
that since I deleted that folder for kb942763 and it no longer shows up in
Add/Remove Programs even with 'Show updates' checked, is there any other way
to uninstall it?

NOW you know why it might not be a good idea to delete all that
stuff... HUH?

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make. A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
Kaspersky
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

Run regedit and do a find on KB92763. That's where the installation info
is stored. If it's there try deleting each instance of the key.

I had essentially the same problem as Scott (Win reinstall, later delete
uninstall update files, new update shows as already being in place) and this
FIXED IT!!!

Chances are that the machine is not fully patched now. See this KB then
check in at Windows Update website:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft
Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP
installation:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

NB: Also applies to clean installs, upgrade installs, and Recovery installs.
