time warner road runner

I am trying to use Outlook Express as my email for my TimeWarner Road Runner
cable internet access. But when I try to launch an email by clicking on a hot
linked address the system fails or starts 6o+ new windows. How should it be
configured? The advice given on MS Office Online is no good.
