Time to Reinstall?

Win XP HE up-graded from 98 currently has so many problems I am thinking of
a reinstall. This will take me back to IE 4.01 (Win 98). Can I assume the XP
up-grade and other updates (including SP2) will restore me to IE 7.0? Second
question. I have only one restore point for February and clicking on the
previous month does nothing. Come March will I have zero restore points? I
will not be able to back to February. How to correct this? I have set the
disk space for the restore points to the max. (12%).

If you feel you have to 're-install'... Just boot from your Windows XP
Upgrade CD, delete the partition(s), create new partition(s), format it and
install from the Windows XP CD - when it asks - utilize your Windows 98
installation media (CD - assuming an actual installation CD - not a 'system
restore' thing) as qualifying media. No need to pass through Windows 98
install.

How much space (drive) do you have and what are the settings for System
Restore? Perhaps you can only fit one restore point.

Free disk space is over 30 % (3+ GB) and restore space has always been set
at 12% (the max.).
Good to hear there is no need to go through Windows 98. However, not sure
what is expected when I am asked to utilize my Window 98 media. Assume it is
Dell Dimension Resource CD. The disk label instructs : "Store in a safe
place in case you ever need to reinstall your device drivers or review your
online documentation." Sounds like correct disk, but, not too sure.

When the installer asks for a qualifying product, just put the Win98 CD in
the drive. You don't need to install it, just show it to the installer.
