Time Sync Not Working

I am running XP Pro on a home network with a Linksys router and I have
noticed the time sync feature no longer works. When I try to sync I get a
rather generic message saying that an error occurred. There is no error
listed on the event log and the windows time service is started. I have
tried several NTP servers including time.windows.com. Has something changed
in the last few months? Any suggestions?

Yes that server hasn't been working well from many. Use a different time
server. I'm in the US and use
tick.usno.navy.mil

I tried the NTP server you recommended and I still get an error saying an
error occurred while trying to sync with the server.

Probably your router isn't allowing the NTP packets out, or more likely,
isn't passing the reply NTP packets back to your machine. Check the
configuration of the router. If there are other local machines behind
the router, knowing whether they are having NTP problems also might help
pinpoint the problem. For debugging, remember that NTP uses UDP packets
on port 123.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took the router out of the loop and attached
directly to the cable modem. I also used the IP address for the NTP server
instead of the URL to eliminate and DNS issues and still get the same error
message. One other interesting thing - I was talking to my brother who lives
in another state and ask him to sync his time. He got the same error message
as me. I am thinking this is a Windows issue maybe caused by their fix for
the new daylight savings times. You might want to do a manual sync and see
if it works.

Did you try a different server? That server hasn't been working properly.

Yes. I tried several servers.

Sorry, I don't know them. When I changed the server it worked. Have you
tried this:

Start | Run
net stop w32time | Enter
w32tm /unregister | Enter
w32tm /register | Enter
net start w32time
