Is there any reason why since daylight savings I've got to keep changing the
time (e.g. from 1000 to 900)?

Thanks,
J.

Verify that the time zone for your location is still set correctly.

There was a Microsoft update/patch for the change in the daylight savings
time shift. Possibly it went wrong when it was applied, if it was.

Another thing you might try... Even if the time zone is being shown
correctly, try changing it by one time zone, rebooting the computer, and
then change it back to the correct one followed by another reboot. What you
see is not always what is actually in the saved settings if things have gone
wrong.

If it is changing more than one hour then it's possible the motherboard's
BIOS battery is in need of changing. Usually this shows up as a more
drastic change in date/time after a power down of more than a couple of
minutes.

Is your time zone correct? Is the DST option enabled? Is the machine fully
patched at Windows Update?

Time zone correct. DST? Why would patches affect it other than the timezone
one which I have no KB number for? Also did a manual upate off
time.windows.com and time didn't change. Maybe it is now up to date since
the extra week has passed.

Double-click on the clock | Open Time Zone tab | Is the DST option
checked/enabled?

Too complicated to explain other than to say that several DST-related
updates and revisions to those updates have been released, especially for
residents of NZ (and AU).

Assuming you live in NZ, DST began on September 28 (this year) at 2:00 AM
local time. Your current time zone offset is UTC +13. If you didn't have
the most recent DST update installed, your computer wouldn't have
automatically adjusted for DST when it was supposed to do so.

2007 was the first year your DST started on the last Sunday in September
(versus the first Sunday in October). In 2007, your DST ended on the third
Sunday in March; beginning in 2008, it now ends on the first Sunday in
April.

Don't see DST. Time Zone is (GMT+1200) Auckland, Wellington. What is UTC?

Don't see DST.

OK.
...Time Zone is (GMT+1200) Auckland, Wellington.

You're good now and the pertinent DST patches for WinXP are installed.
...What is UTC?

UTC = Coordinated Universal Time; see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_Universal_Time

Now, you and most people would think that UTC and GMT are the same thing.
Sometimes they are but not when the UK is on British Summer Time (BST)
(e.g., now). When BST is in effect, BST and GMT are considered the same
thing...but the real time in the UK during BST is UTC +1 (one hour ahead).

Don't worry about it...but this misunderstanding irks lots of folks. <w>

Had a look at site: Computers and Microsoft software is much younger then
1972 which is when UTC replaced GMT.

UTC has never replaced GMT.
