.tif files challenge... no option to save instead of open

Upon clicking a .tif file in IE6, the dialog box offering the option to save
instead of open is not offered. DON'T suggest the common solution of Folder
Options>>File Types>>Extension name>>Advanced>>Confirm After download. That
DOES NOT WORK, because "Advanced" button is not available for .tif or .tiff
file types. Therefore you are not presented with any option to "Confirm
After Download". Need another solution.

I believe Open will only be an option if you have and application installed
that is associated with that file type.

I do have a .tif viewer associated with those file types. However, in the
past, the dialog box offerring the option to save or open had come up. Now,
it no longer does. I don't know why that is, but I want the dialog to
return. I want to save directly without opening and viewing the file.
Right-click, "Save target as" just returns an error. Will disassociating the
viewer return the dialog box?
