Can someone tell me where I can get help with the free Thunderbird? The NG
for this software is dead as is the Newsreader NG. How does one see the
Headers of messages? I would like to see if my IP shows for one thing. How
does one view the headers or properties of other people's headers? I see
nothing to cover this in the helpfiles.

TIA

Sorry;

I don't use it but...Have you seen www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/?
Also, they moved all mozilla-related newsgroups over to
mozilla.support.thunderbird. It's very active, fwiw.

I recently searched this group for others who have a problem with "paste"
being greyed out, and only "paste as a quotation" being offered. I noticed
many of the requests for help were either ignored or consisted of the "I
don't have this problem..." variety. Not exactly helpful. As a result of
this and other minor problems, I am currently rethinking my choice of email,
newsreader program.

It is right in plain site. Click on Message, Headers and make your choice.

Brian.... Paste is greyed out when nothing has been Cut or Copy!
When only paste as a quotation is offered, it knows this is a URL.
I recently switched to T'Bird and have had no problems at all with it.

Not in my version. That choice is not available when "Message" is clicked
on. I did find it when View/Headers was clicked on. I'm not very happy
with Thunderbird. I may try another NR. Also the
"mozilla.support.thunderbird" NG is DEAD. The newest message was from mid
May.

Thanks for all your help.

Both Thunderbird and Firefox "experts" (probably connected with
development of the products) in the newsgroups have a history of being
arrogant, self-righteous, and they get very "huffy" when offered
suggestions. They often WILL answer your question, but ONLY if a
criticism is not implied or suggested by the questioner. If IE7 is any
good (which I personally doubt) Firefox and TB'll be on the decline.

The server on which the support newsgroups are located is
news://news.mozilla.org and the newsgroups for Thunderbird is
news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.support.thunderbird

Likewise, Firefox support is also available at

news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.support.firefox on the same server.

Hit Ctrl+U (source text) or click on the little symbol above the message
pane to get some header view options. If it's not there: View->Header

And if you're willing to learn german - there's a good NG ;-)

That depends on how many people will prefer a "just as good" that
doesn't come from Redmond.

I turned to Mozilla set. It has a builtin Email/News Reader. Works great...

I got the correct newsgroup this time. Lots of activity there.

Thanks again. :0)
