How can i turn this off permanently, i'm told it is
possible. File previewing (even just the file icons)
takes an age, and continually interferes with file
deletions (i.e. file in use errors), and continually
crashes windows explorer. Can anyone help - thanks.

Folder Options> View
Place a check next to "Do not cache thumbnails."
Delete the existing thumbs.db files. They will not be recreated.

The next time you view a folder using Thumbnail view, it may take a while
for the images to render since they are no longer cached in the thumbs.db
file.
