I have found a file in my website folders called 'thumbs.db'
I have never created such a file, I am concerned it has found its way into
my folders from the internet - does anyone recognise what this file is and
should it be deleted?

thanks for taking a look at my question

The file is created any time you open a folder in Windows Explorer or My Computer that contains
images. Avoid opening folder on your local HD outside of FP. You need to delete these files from
within your web folders.

Further to Thomas' explanation, you can prevent the files being created
by:
Open Windows Explorer or My Computer
Tools->Folder Options
View tag
Tick the box labelled "Do not cache thumbnais"
Click OK

This will not delete any existing thumbs.db files, but will stop them
being created.

Mark it Don't publish ... then you have the freedom to access images as you
wish on your computer ... and delete it off the server .. then it's not
cluttering up the site ... and forget about it ... whereever you have images
you will find it appearing so once it does just mark it don't publish ..
right click on it and choose that from the right hand menu that pops up.

Done. Thanks, Ron - I had no idea I could do that.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work if you ftp - unless you selectively choose
each time which ones to upload - so it won't matter if its marked don't
publish - unless I'm missing something - I ftp outside of fp as I'm trying
to get away from fpse.

thanks
