I was playing around with Microsoft Powertoys...Tweak UI...on my
XP Pro system, and I changed the Thumbnail / Image Quality setting
from two marks below High to High. After that, all my image thumbnails
became greyed out. After changing the setting back to the original mark,
all thumbnails were still grainy and low-quality.. So I did a Restore back
to a few days ago, and the thumbnails are now back to normal....thank
goodness. What went wrong here?

Thanks!
Scott

Scott,

After resetting the Thumbnail Size/Quality, you need to delete the Thumbs.db (hidden) file in that folder. This rebuilds the thumbnail image.

The implementation of Thumbnails gets things wrong if that setting is
too high.. Remedy is a little easier than you found - after putting the
setting back, make sure you have have Folder Options - View set to show
Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones Then in a list or
icon view of the folder, delete Thumbs.db. Next time you open in Thumb
view it will be rebuilt

Alex,

OK, thanks! I will try that. By the way, why would turning the slider all
the
way up to High be too high?

Thanks!
