Thumbnails and NEF RAW format images.

Dear Friends,
In Windows XP, I can' t get My Pictures to display picture thumbnails of
NEF RAW format images (from a Nikon D100 camera). The thumbs display like a
large tile with no picture.
Any clues?
With Kind Regards,
John

Note, you really should post this to the windowsxp.photos newsgroup.

Nonetheless, many digital cameras use a proprietary format for their raw
images. When that is the case, the camera manufacturer usually includes the
necessary software to display the raw images. Check the documentation and
software package that came with your computer. That would explain why you
are unable to display raw image file thumbs in the My Pictures folder, it
may not be able to read the format.

Dear Michael,
Thank you for your kind response to my enquiry.
I have been in touch with Nikon Europe who informed me that Windows displays
a large tile instead of a picture thumbnail for the NEF RAW format.
As I edit my images in Photoshop from RAW, I was hoping, after processing
through the camera' s software, that I would be able to see RAW image
thumbnails in "My Pictures" for ease of recognition.
Alas this is not possible.
I was unaware that a windowsxp.photos newsgroup existed. This is useful
information for which I am most grateful.
Best Wishes and Kind Regards,
John
