Those default sounds: More annoying than Clippy....

A relatively mundane question....

This week I did a clean installation of XP, and so far,
so good.

Of course, I'm now dealing with those incredibly annoying
and pointless artificial click noises that occur on every
mouse click and every time a Web page opens. I've used
Control Panel and Sound Device options to (apparently)
turn off the sounds that bother me most, but despite a
reboot the sounds remain.

Am I missing something? Can anyone make it stop?

Thanks,

G

You were in the right place but must have just missed the entry. It is
called (I think) "navigation" and it is under Internet Explorer.

You got it. Thanks for the prompt.

<Control Panel>, <Sounds and Audio Devices>, <Sounds>
Then select the Program Event(s) that you want to disable
the sound for and choose <none> for each - once you have
finished make sure to SAVE the new Sound Scheme using the
<Save As> button. Until you actually SAVE the changes
you made (I believe) XP will keep defaulting to the
original scheme when booting... at the very least, if XP
does default, you can simply reload the changes you made
with a few mouse clicks... Hopefully this helps!

On sounds, the ones probably causing most of the annoyance are Windows
Explorer - Start Navigation, and Complete Navigation. Set these to
(none) (at the top of the list), click Apply, and also save the sound
scheme and see.
