Those damn AMD processor retail packs

Well, I've just bought an Althon XP processor as an upgrade, in one of
those retail packs. The ones with the green fronts and included fan as
it was only £6 more than a cardboard box job. But, errr, I have a
problem, I can't get into the damn thing! Well, I could, if I cut open
the plastic, but I'd rather not, just in case theres a problem with
it, and it has to go back. But I've pulled the damn thing and pulled,
but the two halfs won't come apart. So, if I persist, will they part,
or do I have to take a knife to it?

TIA

they do that as a safety precaution.
if you don't know how to open the package...
you should not be replacing the cpu in your machine <G>

I had to cut it. Yeah they are impossible to open. You really have to
cut them up.

At least you know you arent getting one thats been opened and then
resealed and returned thats for sure.

Apparetly you feel there is some significance to a blister pack that has
been forced apart at the melted seams rather than cut open... there is
not. You don't necessary need a knife though, a hefty pair of scissors
will cut off the melted seams and leave a nice stright edge so the stepped
plastic shell fits back together better, if that's somehow psychologically
important to you.

Cut it. It's welded as an anti-tamper measure, so you know it's just as it
is when it came from the AMD plant.

Yes, I safely predicted that I'd get at least one remark like that. So
predictable *sigh* ;)
