"This USB device can perform faster . . . "

New HP computer with WinXP Home. Works fine, very pleased with it -- but --
every time I boot, I get and annoying pop-up telling me something like "This
USB device can perform faster . . . this USB 2.0 device can perform faster."

I am perfectly happy with the way my few USB devices are performing -- how
do I stop this pop-up?

Thanks.

Make them perform faster!

Okay -- I just cracked the whip over all my USB devices and told them
"Faster, faster big fellow" -- and I still get the annoying pop-up.

Now what?

Some of your usb ports may not be USB 2.
If you have any usb devices plugged into a usb 1.1 port - you will get that
message.

Are any of your USB devices connected to your computer through
an older USB hub?

Since this is a new computer, I'd suggest you contact HP to see
if they can shed any light on your problem. I would expect all
the USB ports on a new computer to be capable of supporting USB
2.0 devices. There may be an updated driver for your USB host
controller. You might also be advised to uninstall all USB
entries in Device Manager, reboot the computer and let Windows
reinstall the drivers for these devices.

FYI, I believe you can turn off the warning by doing the
following:
Go to Control Panel and double click the System icon.
Click on the Hardware tab.
On the Hardware page, click on the Device Manager button.
In Device Manager, click on the + sign next to "Universal
Serial Bus controllers".
Right click any of the entries that ends with "Host
Controller".
In the Properties sheet, click on the Advanced tab.
In the Advanced page, put a check mark in the box next to
"Don't tell me about USB errors".
Click OK.
Close Device Manager.
Close the System applet.

Good luck
