This just in from the MS OneCare Beta Team

Hi All:

Okay, I fibbed about not mentioning the MS OneCare Beta
again, but this just in from the MS OneCare Beta Team:
([email protected]) Posted 09-01-2005 @ 3:50 PM
"We are now at a point where we would like to begin
expanding our group of beta testers, and invite you to
extend Windows OneCare beta invitations to your friends
and family. Just have them go to
http://beta.microsoft.com, sign in with their Passport
ID, and enter 'OneCare' (case sensitive) when prompted
for the guest ID. We truly value your continued feedback
and participation and look forward to including
additional beta participants to help us make this a great
product."

I don't know if they've opened it to outside of the US or
not as she hasn't responded to my inquiry yet.

Knowing the level of expertise on this MSAS NG, I'd say
those of you interested could certainly lend a hand with
this WOC Beta.

Warm regards,

RobbieA

Thanks for posting this.

I think it is unlikely that they are ready to expand outside the United
States, unfortunately.

Because of the subscription nature of the product, and the provision of live
support in the local language, this will take significant effort on a
country by country basis, both in terms of legal issues, and setting up the
support lines.

Hi Andre:

What Bill says is true and here's the response from Nadia
confirming Bill's info:

"At this time, the WOC beta is limited to the US only. An
International beta will be available later this
year/beginning of next year.

Thank you!

Nadia

(e-mail address removed)"

So it will be happening in a short while.

What the heck is a "passport ID?"
It's Microsoft's "universal" log-in scheme (scam), which allows you access
to multiple items (services) through one logon. Basically, just an easier
way for someone to totally mess up your life if they were to figure out your
log-in info somehow...

I've always thought it was a dumb idea, as security people always tell you,
"Don't use the same password/user id for all your accounts, everywhere, as
it makes you too vulnerable should someone manage to crack or steal your
log-in info."

Microsoft wants you to do just that anyway... If your info is ever
compromised, whomever will have access to everything you have that relates
back to Microsoft somehow... This is the main reason why eBay dropped the
ability to use their system by logging into your ".NET Passport" Account...
