Thinkpad T40 and Vista RTM

I've been doing a bit of reading in various forums and seems that a few
people have gotten the XP drivers for the ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 to work
with Vista RTM. The only thing which I cannot get working is video since
the display adaptor is seen only as a VGA card and not the ATI which means
that Glass does not work and power managemnt only includes hibernate and
not suspend.

Anybody got Vista RTM working on a Thinkpad T40 with XP or even other
drivers? I'd like to give Vista RTM another shot this weekend.

Michael:
I'm not using a ThinkPad but a Compac Presario v2300cto with ATI
M200. When I installed Vista Enterprise x86 the video drivers were installed
as an optional update in Windows Update. Have a great day.

I've got a T30 and I'm in the same boat. I wouldn't count on a video driver.
You just don't have enough memory for glass (128MB needed). I think that the
Mobility 7500's have only 32MB.

The power management is the big thing for me. I know that these drivers were
in some of the betas, too, so I was surprised that the RTM didn't have
these.

I just gave Vista RTM a whirl on the T40. I had read about using XP
drivers for video and its a hassle to get them in. Once you get them
being used, the nicer screen savers all work; but again power management
and "sleep" does not work at all and it reboots the laptop each time I
try to use "sleep". Other than no Glass and limited power management
choices, Vista runs pretty good on the laptop. But since I travel and
use the laptop in a variety of settings, I kinda need to have reliable
power management. The only choice is to hibernate the system each time
which can be setup to answer lid close events.

Just a FWIW, if you use the XP drivers; its a manual installation and
kinda tricky. In the end I broke the entire video system and now Vista
RTM will boot but video does not show up at all even after I reset things
back to standard VGA card.

It'd be nice to be able to have better power management alternatives.
