thin client management

Hi all,

I have a number of thin clients spread around the world that I need to
manage. I don't use Altiris or other management software.
Because no management tool is in place, I find it a little diffucult to
maintain them in a consistent way.

My idea would be to install a small web server on each thin client and
then setup a page where I would be able to connect to in order to see
some data about the thin client such as network configuration, user
logged-on, processes running and so on...

The only problem I don't really know how to get started. Any ideas ?

Thank you in advance and Regards.

Are the devices going to be opened on Internet? Will each of them have thier own internet static IP?
Interesting if so. Make sure you properly secure such devices (may be a bit hard with XP base).

What your thin clinets are based on now? Hope it is XPe, otherwise the quesiton should go to another NG.
Then you can easy start with IIS Web server components in XPe database.
Or, as alternative, you can use Apatche component from www.xpefiles.com.

Btw, you can manage you devices different way. E.g., with DUA or SMS (see XPe docuntation).
