Embedded XP Thin Client

Sam

Have a compaq EVO T20 Thin Client with Embedded XP factory installed.
What are the pros and cons of having the thin client log on to a
domain versus having the thin client log on to a terminal server on
the domain.

I have not been able to get the Thin CLient to add a printer via
"Standard TCP/IP Port" as that option is not available...only LPT1 is
available as port available when adding printer.. We are messing
around with the Thin CLients and trying to figure out if we actually
need a terminal server or if it is practical to just log these thin
clients onto a domain and give them a special profile for their
account.

Also trying to figure out how to get into the configuration manager
since someone else set these up and they have all ready been through
the first time turned on configuration manager. I need to check those
settings.

Thanks.

Sam,

As far as I can remember, Evo T20/T30 Thin Clients are former Compaq
manufactured, right? So, you may want to ping HP or, even better, Wyse
Techologies (who developed the platform) to ask them for SLX of the image
you are playing with. I don't think, however, they will provide you with
anything (they usually don't give up anything) :-(
There are also another company that messed up with these thin clients. If
you need more info/details, send me a direct email.

Hello Sam

Our XPe Thin Clients have a custom image so we will build an image for you
and then when it is up and running let you have the keys to the image so you
can maintain it. I am not sure if Wyse/ Compaq will give out the SLK, might
do for a fee because I have heard for around $5000 they do that, but I am
not sure how reliable my source is.

We do have several users that use our XPe as stand alone machines with out
Terminal Services, however most use a client app like Meditech Magic or
other emulator and the data is stored on a server in the back end not on the
local device. A large hospital here in Minneapolis has the thin client log
on to its Novell Domain and then apps are published to the desktop via
Citrix, using ZENWORKS and De Frame. We are also in a project where we are
installing Lotus notes locally and giving them a HDD so they can keep their
e-mails locally and free up space on their servers. So within reason a thin
client with XPe should be able to do pretty much exactly what you need it to
do.

In regards to the configuration manager, I am sorry I do not know the EVO
line at all, call HP and they should be able to help.

Cheers
