Don't think of them as colors for a specific item, just think of them as
Color 1, Color 2, Color 3, etc. You can apply any of those to any item on
the slides or slide master.
For example, if the slide title placeholder formatting on the slide master
has Color 3 applied and you later apply a new color scheme, the slide titles
will become whatever Color 3 is in that new scheme. If you think about it
this way, you'll realize that the labeling on the old color schemes was more
limiting than not.
Take a look at some of the installed design themes for more examples. Open a
new, blank presentation and apply the Urban design theme. In Urban, the
bullet point is Accent 3 (and the slide titles are Text 2). In Solstice, the
bullet point is Accent 1 (and the slide titles are Text 2). So it doesn't
really matter which accent you use for bullets, etc. If you're still in
Solstice and you choose Colors (on the Design tab), then Flow, you'll see
everything turn to shades of blue, because that's what the Flow color scheme
is all about. The bullet is still Accent 1, but now Accent 1 is a blue
color.
In Technic, you'll see the slide title text is Text 1. The Dark1/Light1 and
Dark2/Light2 are also called Background and Text. The goal of these pairs is
to provide dark and light combinations so that when you apply a dark
background to a slide, the text automatically becomes light, and vice-versa.
So if you were to take Technic and click Background Styles on the Design tab
and choose a white background, you'll see the text automatically become
black. And if you look at the colors in the color picker, you'll see the
black and white have reversed, and now black is "Text 1."

our
PPT
templates over effectively. In PPT 2002, when you refer to the color of
an
element (E.G. Fill for an AutoShape or Font for text), you see which
color
swatch on the Color Scheme palette is current, or the one in use
(unless
its
an RGB setting outside of the standard set of colors.) Several elements
in
presentations based on standard Themes in 2007 seem to be pointing to
no
particular color on the palatte. Is this a known issue?
