Hi,

I have read a number of threads on this board from people with this error
message.
After using fp2000 for several years, and for several websites, I am
suddenly getting this message too.

I have downloaded and run fpcleaner, but no change.

The error message is only occuring on my largest site which has some 10000+
pages. (110mb)

I only created this web recently, and have just installed the server
extensions on my host, so it is a fresh install - in fact the files were all
uploaded to the host (using dreamweaver) by an associate, and I spent a whole
day importing them in to my copy of fp.

I edited a few hundred pages and tried to upload them back when I received
the error message.

Significantly, if I click "edit this page" with my site open in IE, fp will
open but reports some 16000 pages (which is what I really expected).

So what is the best method to obtain all the files from my site? - there was
an error message when I imported, but I was not aware how serious that was -
and I just clicked ok before noting it down...

I can also see that some of the file names have some how got corrupted with
spurious characters including ' and " and ... which I will need to change I'm
sure, but I don't know if they are causing fp to behave like this.

Any suggestions anyone has would be gratefully received.

Thanks
Michael

If you can open your site w/ FP in IE (and log in) Publish it to your local PC (don't import)

Thank you.

I have now done that and it published to my local drive without any problems
and a lot quicker than when I tried to import it.

So I guess I can now edit any pages, and then upload the changed pages to my
site in the normal way? (I keep thinking I am missing something here - for
years, I have always thought importing a site was best.)

Thanks again for your help.

By normal way, you do mean publishing via http, correct?

Yes, I have always published via http up to the host server, but I did not
realise I could publish to my own pc as way of backup or whatever.

So I can now discard that previously imported set of files (which was
significantly incomplete) and simply edit and update the new lot before
republishing using fp.

For me, this is good news because I had been considering the need to upgrade
from fp2000 which has served me well for so many years. I was starting to
think there was no way I could obtain all my files from my host (which is now
some 16400) and it thought it was due to some file limits in fp2000.

Thanks again Thomas and Stefan.

Sorry, but I'm a bit confused..
I followed the advice to publish to my pc.
I opened the saved web and edited some files, fixed some links etc.
Then I prepared to republish back to the host, but received this error
message - and I have no clue what effect it will have on my existing
site/links/structure that is currently on the host.

"Frontpage has detected that changes you have made to the navigation
structure conflict with changes another author has made to the web you are
publishing to.
Options are: Replace, do not replace, or let frontpage merge the changes."

Your advice again appreciated. Thanks.
