I am using Outlook 2000. Because my pst-file now has grown to apprx 760 MB, I
wanted to archive some of the old emails.
I tried to archive all mails received, sent or modified before dec 31 2003
to a filed called archive2003.pst.
The archive2003.pst grew to apprx 460 MB, but my outlook.pst was only
reduced to 730 MB.
Is there anyone who can explain why? or what I should have done to reduce
the outlook.pst?

Have you compacted your .pst file since you archived?

Thank you guys! That helped.
I must confess that i figured since outlook and xp is so d**n automatic, it
would be done automtically when i archived.

Thanks anyway.

It is compacted to an extent but never as much or as thorough as when you do
it manually.
