The print spooler has stopped responding - message - can't print

I cannot figure out how to get the print spooler to begin responding again.
It appears from the little I have found about this that Microsoft is well
aware of this problem and it really bothers me that they would charge me to
help me fix this. Can anyone help? I'm on a disability income and this
computer is my lifeline to the world right now. Thanks.
