"The page cannot be displayed"

Mike

I am on aol 9.0 using IE 6.0. I can access websites but
when I start to go into certain areas of a website (e.g.,
get flight information on an airline website; complete
rebate information on a retailers website, etc), I get the
message "the page cannot be displayed". I have tried a
number of fixes suggested by aol and dell but none have
worked so far....appreciate any experience here. Thanks.

We need more information about your configuration. What kind of Internet
access do you have? Proxy? Which sites particularly? SSL connections via
HTTPS or just regular HTTP connections? Does it ever work for these sites?
Etc.

Dan -

Not sure how to answer your question but I am using AOL
9.0 to access the internet. Used AOL 7.0 with no problems
until last month.

Our problems occur on a number of websites. We can get on
and navigate the websites fine but when we try to perform
transactions, etc. that is when we get "the page cannot be
displayed" message. These websites have included:

(1) costco.com - to access their online rebate site (get
the page cannot be displayed message)

(2) ezpassnj.com - to view account information

(3) usairways.com - to purchase tickets (can go through
the entire process including when the available flights
are shown....when I hit "continue" I get the page cannot
be displayed message)

(4) wachovia.com - to view account information

Let me know if you need any other information. Appreciate
your help.

I have been wrestling with this problem since AOL 9.0 came out. I could
access my bank webpage on AOL 8.0, but on 9.0 it absolutely would not
work. I would get the "Page cannot be displayed" error. No pages that
required SSL or a Java or scripting would load. I tried everything AOL
Tech offered, the usual rookie suggestions.
I searched a lot of pages and forums and it would appear that a lot of
people have the same problem. Hope this helps.

Here's what to do....

1) From control panel, uninstall ALL versions of AOL from your
computer. (One problem I was having was that I was leaving the 8.0 and
only deleting 9.0)
2) Then, from the control panel delete ALL references to Java.
3)Search your C:/Program Files/ for any Java folders and delete them.
(The Java uninstaller leaves behind an empty folder, and when you
reinstall, a new folder with exactly the same name is created. the Java
defaults will point to the OLD empty folder and not the new, and Java
will fail)
4) Install a fresh AOL 9.0
5) Go to Sunmicrosystems and MANUALLY download the latest Java Runtime
Environment and install that OFFLINE.
6) Test Java by going here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.jsp
That's how I resolved the problem. You have to wipe your system clean
and do complete reinstalls of Java and AOL.
Let me know if it works...
