The Operation Failed

When I open my Outlook 2000, the normal Outlook Today page opens, and then an
error box opens saying "The operation failed." When I OK that, the error box
and Outlook itself immediately close.
I have recently had a hard drive failure and re-installed operating system
and all applications. Outlook ran OK, but recently started having problems.
Other office applications are not affected.
I have re-installed Outlook, but no change.
How do I fix this?

Have you scanned the Outlook data file (the PST) for errors? Also since this
is an older version of Outlook, have you verified the size of the PST? It
does have a maximum size it can reach, 2 GB, but can become flaky around 1.6
GB or so.

.
Yes, I scanned the pst and found no errors. The file is small, about 4,000 kb.

How are you opening the PST? How did you attach it to Outlook? Did you try
File > Open?

4,000 kb.
