"The network is not present or not started"

My PC has been working fine on a network for over a year. If I try to UNC
to a pc name I get the above error message.

If I browse through My Network Places, I get the same as above with the
extra line of "Unable to Browse the Network". (The network is not down by the
way as other people are happily using it!)

Here's the weird thing....I can access the internet fine (hence my post) and
other people can access shares on my PC, which would indicate that there is
no network card HW problem.

I have nothing strange showing in Event Viewer and in Services, the
following are all started
DHCP, DNS, NETLOGON, Workstation, Server, Network Connections.

Any ideas?

I searched Google for:
Unable to Browse the Network
and found this article along with other possible relevant links:

I have had a similar problem, no network places, no network connections,
(lan or wireless), but I am not having any problems accessing the internet at
all. Is it a registry problem?

Hi
The web page listed by RWS is for NT PCs only.
Not sure if its registry related.
However, I can log onto another PC and access NW shares on different PCs so
the problem is not Active Directory related. The problem is defintely local.

SORTED!!!!

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Microsoft for Networking Client and now
Network Drives and Network shares are working as before.

Hope this helps others....
