The I use Vista, the more I dislike it..

An example, trying to delete lots of files from a camera memory card. In
the old days, I used to select the ones I wanted, then do a "Invert
Selection", followed by a delete. Can I do that now? Not that I can see.

I also tried enabling the tickboxes in explorer, but that drives me nuts,
and is virtually unusable...

Very poor show to change all these things, without having a "Classic"
Windows explorer for those that liked how it worked before...

Press ALT to show the old menus. Invert selection still works. In Folder
Options you can set the menu to always be visible.

That's really for use on a Tablet when you don't have easy access to CTRL or
SHIFT.

Invert Selection is there in the Edit menu when you enable the menu bar.
I like the check boxes, especially when doing a little de-selecting after
selecting all.
Still missing the X delete icon though, but I'm slowly adjusting to doing
right-click > delete.

I used to be die hard windows classic user. I never switched to XP
style. When vista arrived I promised myself to use new themes at least
couple of months before reverting to classic one. At first I hated
Vista. But gradually I started to like the new interface, start menu,
new folders and lot of other things.

Of course there are some annoyances, but then so has everything. If you
don't like Vista, Windows XP is still fine. Community will propably
create classic theme for Vista after release.

Wow! Total Commander, Far, and many more alternate file managers was banned
in Vista? :0
I always use Total Commander, only in Vista I can use native explorer.
Becouse it nice looking, have normal search, customizible and comfortable.

I hope you're joking because old classic Windows explorer is horrible.
New Vista Windows explorer is very good and better functional

some will always like the old classic style
but we are in the 21st century and it's time to move on
people say vista is a little bloated but I guess it does have a lot of new
features and their great I can't understand why on earth anyone would still
prefer the classic style

You could use Cntrl-A then deselect the ones you don't want to delete. I
think this will work.

if you're scared of change, dont use vista. i suppose you're one of those old
fashioned persons that are never happy w/ anything new. well maybe u should
make ur own OS. i'm serious. maybe itll be better than windows.

I could, but why should I NEED to adapt my way of working? Invert
selection has always been very useful, and now it's gone (or very well
hidden).

I think the Vista UI has some great features for new users, but for power
users and those than like old shortcuts, we have been screwed over by
Microsoft :-(

Yeah I hate it when they changed things around. I have a couple of pet
heaves myself. One of them is the popups.

Hello from my previous post:

Press ALT to show the old menus. Invert selection still works. In Folder
Options you can set the menu to always be visible.

You can get to Folder Options by pressing Organize -> Folder and Search
Options -> View -> Check Always show menus.

It's pretty pointless for some of us to complain about the change.
Those of us who buy computers for a business are going to be getting
Vista on them, like it or not. So I personally have to try to become
proficient with it before they show up. This beta program is a life
saver for me.

It's not quite XP as for hardware support. We use tape backup on all
our servers and I have had a lot of fun finding tape backup software
that work with Vista, as the backup that comes with it no longer
supports tape backup. Of course, the ui is simple enough for a child
to use. No problem there.

you are correct on that. Vista does have better hardware support.
Its a more modern OS, but the gui has problems and its slow on some
hardware...
