Using Search in Explorer with Vista

Hey All,

Can someone tell me how I can recursively search folders in Windows Vista
using Explorer? Currently, it only seems to search the currently selected
folder.

In that same vein, is there a way or has anyone found any third party tools
which mimic the classic Explorer interface?

I use and love the free AgentRansack. It's fast, easy to use and intuitive.
If it's on your PC, AgentRansack will find it. I find the search feature on
Vista useless. AR works on both Vista and XP.

The Vista Search is very powerful and will find anything by file or contents
in a file, if one knows how to use it, which is pretty easy.

Vista search automatically searches in all folders in the indexed
locations....

After two hours of trying to locate a file in Vista, I mounted the drive
from a remote XP machine and searched across the network. Found the file in
less than three minutes.

You can use Windows-key and F-Key combination to get to Advanced Search. You
can use the ALT-key to shows the Tool/Folder Options.

You can go to Folder Options/View and enable Always Show Menu, which will
show the menu with Tools on the Adv Search and Explore at all times

More seriously, I'm not sure what spurred this type of response you
provided. I requested some help which, according to you, should be easy
help to provide. Please feel free to offer something of value. I'll leave
the "holding hands" stuff to other forums and websites better suited for
such things.

As per the "fee", nah, I think the "holding hands" part is a hefty enough

Why are you selecting a folder? Just do Start and type in the Search
field......

I was selecting a folder because I'm used to the context menu that shows up
when you right click a folder in previous versions of Windows where a
'Search' option is offered.

Both of you need to stop, because neither one of you know what you're
talking about. The search is only going to look in indexed locations, which
there are only three default locations out of the box. The entire HD is not
indexed like it is on XP, but it can be customized on Vista.

If you don't get the hit that you're looking for, then in the ADV search
move the Location off of Indexed locations only and select <C> or something
and also enable "Include non indexed hidden and system files". You can point
to a folder too with the settings.

Guys Guys Guys... please

First, thanks for the help. The info on the Advanced Search menu and the
new settings in the Folder Options was exactly what I needed. The Folder
Options, I must admit, I whiffed on because I was in there but didn't catch
it as I was looking for other things.

In any event, the reason I posted to begin with was because I was looking
for someone that had already been through vs. trying to reinvent the wheel.
