this afternoon I downloaded At&T free anti virus---it shut down my system.
With the help of tech support, my system is us but I cannot open any Word
files. I can create a document, save it, but it will not reopen. Any ideas?

That's the thing with free software: you get your money's worth. Uninstall
it and use something that works.
