Documents unavailable

Just updated ms office from word 2000 to 2003. When i try open any of my
word documents Word says the document is unavailable. when i close word, a
message comes up saying the file normal.dot already exists do i wish to save
it?? i then click cancel and try to close word again but this time theres a
message saying 'changes have been made that affect the global template,
Normal.dot, do you wish to save?'

There are NO normal.doc's when I search.
Ran Norton update.
There is no place to to disable office plug-in in Norton Anti-virus
Corporate edition (no options tab).
"Prompt to save Normal template" was never indicated with a check

Help!

You *should* have "Prompt to save the Normal template" checked. But your
problem is with Norton:

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:

thank your for the response but your solution did not work......I received a
message saying "The specified module could not be found."
I also tried
regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton antivirus\officeav.dll"
and
regsvr32 /u "c:\program files\norton systemworks\norton
antivirus\officeav.dll"

with the same results.

In additon, now everytime I start Outlook (I've reverted back to the older
version) , Search and others , the Windows installer flashes many times.

Help??

Did you search the hard disc for officeav.dll or did you arbitrarily decide
it was in one of those folders?

I can only suggest that you try using a Windows search (over the entire C:\
drive) for officeav.dll.

I've found it via search but now what do I do? Do I delete it entirely? It
asks what application to open it with. None work.
thanks,
Mindy
Also, now windows installed flashes when i open many programs.

You unregister it using the method already described, but substitute the
path to the folder that actually contains it and not some other folder.
