The file is being checked for problems

Whenever I open outlook 2002 after switching on a tablet pc, a message would
come saying "The data file 'peronal folder' was not closed properly.The file
is being checked for problems".Alongwith this message a progress bar would
come which would take around 4 to 5 minutes to complete.
Sometimes while viewing the mails the pc hangs & I have to switch it off &
switch on again.
Anybody any ideas please.

That means that Outlook was not closed properly the last time. Before you
shut down does the outlook.exe process actually stops?
