I am getting this message now everytime I plug in a USB device.
Cannot Install this Harware
<The Device>
An error occured during the installation of the device
The data is invalid.
I am running XP Pro w/SP1,
I have restored the drivers.cab,
I have deleted the device(s) from the Device Manager
I have set the permissions in the registry.
I have run sfc /scannow
I have run chkdsk & defrag
I have become frustrated...
Please help...

Hi

Go to device manager, double click universal serial bus controller, highlight the XXX PCI to USB Open Host controller then right click and select uninstall, click apply and OK
For USB 2.0, highlight the XXX PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller then select uninstall
Reboot and let windows reinstall the drivers
Thereafter, go to windows update site and download the patch for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 (in the recommeded update column)
Try reinstall the USB device again
Note: follow the USB device manual for how to install the USB deviice drivers. Some USB device need to install the drivers first before connecting to the USB hub
