The contents of this file cannot be unpacked

Hi,

When I try and install software on my PC it downloads or loads from cd.
but just before it finished unpacking the exe I get the message;


"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. the executable you are
attempting to run has been corrupted. please obtain another copy of the
file, verify its integrity, and try again."


Any advice to how to fix or what needs to be reinstalled would be most
welcome. Windows xp proffecional
