Good looking female, nice vids, but to me it's just another slice of American powerpop pseudo emotional sing-by-numbers.

Even it if ain't American it would aspire to be.

Doesn't have that defining spark, hard to explain.

I perfectly understand where you are coming from and come to think of it it made me realise I may be in that mood and got carried away. :D

How about Toni Childs?

Yes. Damn indeed. Good, "honest" music. Can't say it any better, but... damn.

That first one quite unlike anything I'd heard before. The base melody was almost Irish. The one in the red skirt had a nice boat-race, I've always liked brunettes and always seem to fancy the odd ones ;)

And Dave Brubeck was always good.

And my contribution, these guys were locals and we often met them after gigs at a coffee house/hot dog stall at a garage in Lee High Road early hours of the morning and waffled the night away.

They gave us free tickets to see them at an all-nighter at The Lyceum in The Strand supporting Yes one time. We (when I say 'we' I mean and me 2 mates I done the disco with) met them in their dressing room and one of the buggers slipped me a tab in my beer. It kicked in just as Yes took the stage around 4am.

That was weird, didn't care for it tbh, like to be in control, not taken by surprise.

Anyhoo, the vid, not much of a vid, just the sound really:

But... bristols?

Ahem... <cough> <cough>... anyway: I found a (somewhat sanitized) English translation – enjoy:

[font=Arial, Helvetica][size=-2]The sound of a polka drifted from my neighbor's
and set my feet a-tapping oh!
Ieva's mother had her eye on her daughter but
Ieva she managed to fool her, you know.
'Cause who's going to listen to mother saying no
when we're all busy dancing to and fro!

Ieva was smiling, the fiddle it was wailing
as people crowded round to wish her luck.
Everyone was hot but it didn't seem to bother
the handsome young man, the dashing buck.
'Cause who's going to mind a drop of sweat
when he's all busy dancing to and fro!

Ieva's mother she shut herself away
in her own quiet room to hum a hymn.
Leaving our hero to have a spot of fun
in a neighbor's house when the lights are dim.
'Cause what does it matter what the old folks say
when you're all busy dancing to and fro!

When the music stopped then the real fun began
and that's when the laddie fooled around.
When he took her home, when the dancing was over
her mother angrily waiting they found.
But I said to her, Ieva, now don't you weep
and we'll soon be dancing to and fro!

I said to her mother now stop that noise
or I won't be responsible for what I do.
If you go quietly and stay in your room
you won't get hurt while your daughter I woo.
'Cause this fine laddie is a wild sort of guy
when he's all busy dancing to and fro!

One thing I tell you is you won't trap me,
no, you won't find me an easy catch.
Travel to the east and travel to the west but
Ieva and I are going to make a match.
'Cause this fine laddie ain't the bashful sort
when he's all busy dancing to and fro.

Loreena McKennit - very very good :thumb: I'd never heard of her.

Michael Camilo: Set my teeth on edge, jazz it no my bag, mostly, though there are exceptions ;)

Flops: I am glad you liked her, yes, Loreena McKennitt is a great artist and the concert she did at the Alhambra is a treat for the ears, eyes and of course the soul. It was done in HD so you should check it out and if possible get yourself a copy. It is packaged with two CD's and one DVD.

Loreena McKennitt actually got the inspiration from Alan Stivell who is a master harpist and a great French musician. I was introduced to him back in the mid 70's. I had done a review of one of his Grammy nominated albums the link to which is given below. Ironically when I did the review I had mentioned Loreena being inspired by him as well back in 2001. Loreena has come a long way indeed and matured as an artist too.

Here is an introduction of Alan Stivell for you, this is the very tune which I was introduced to first time and it stuck in my head, even today I enjoy it as much as I did for the first time back when I was just a kid.

Here is the review I did as well as one track from the album which I hope you will like.
Are your dreams devoid of musical passages?

A couple more just for the hell of it :)

I remember playing this regularly doing a disco at The Greyhound, Chadwell Heath, Essex, mid-nineties, played there for about three years, a Hells Angels pub. Give it a while, it does get going.

Brilliant tribal drumming.

Three Days - Janes Addiction

In 1980 my wife-to-be and another couple went to The Stonehenge free festival. At around 3am on a Sunday morning I was wandering around the site suite by myself frankly stoned out of my head and suddenly this song blared forth from a sound system somebody had just sent up.

Lord Of Light - Hawkwind

I think it had a lasting impact on me.

I'd been to the Stonehenge Festival twice previoulsy and to be honest I didn't enjoy it too much in 1980, it was kinda scary. It was almost true anarchy with a lot of thugs and freeloaders in attendance. Sad but true.

Still, it did have it's moments and the good people outweighed the bad.

I did get a bit poxed off with every time we made a meal (usually veggie stew in a huge pot) about six people would mysteriously materialise with spoons and bowls, smiling, muttering 'free food'.

Next year I started going to the Glastonbury Festival. Much better.
